April 16th, 2015. What a great day. This was one of those storms I was on from the very beginning. I saw the anvil explode into the sky and slowly the storm evolved and as it neared me, the structure was amazing. Over the course of two hours I only moved about a mile. I love this brush-like wall cloud hanging over the Texas prairie. You can see how I edited this image on a screencast I’ll be releasing in the coming week! This dying storm over Rapid City on June 1st, 2015 was so amazing…so many bolts came out of it, I was in total heaven. This is the fourth image from this spot that I’ve shared, and I still have a couple more strikes that I might edit at some point! But it just has me itching to do some chasing…cannot wait to get out there! Haven’t posted much in the past week, been on a little vacation with the wife enjoying a much needed break from the kiddos and work. I don’t think I ever hung out on Vekol Road before this past summer, but in 2015 I must have been up here at least six times. It’s empty, I never see other cars and it’s up high so you can see north/south and also down the freeway. I was out with my buddy Bryan Cox on this night, September 13th, one of the last storms of the summer. And of course, as I should have expected, I ran into my lightning buddy Nic Leister out here on this random offramp. This was a great storm…moved from left to right for over 30 minutes, tons of bolts and it made not only for a couple get images, but also a fantastic time-lapse. Still editing photos from last year, hope to share more leading up to spring! #madwx #azwx #instaweatherpro #weownthenight_az
